For over 20 years, this initiative has provided professional development opportunities to the brightest young talent, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and networks to carry forward the values that define customer-owned banking. The evolution of the program
What started as a small annual gathering of young professionals at COBA’s annual conference has grown into a nationwide network of young leaders. Today, participants engage year-round in professional development, mentorship, and advocacy, strengthening the sector from within.
With a strong track record, the program has helped shape future leaders with many past participants now holding senior positions, including CEO roles at customer-owned banks.
How does the program work?
The Emerging Leader Program is open to employees under 35 working at a customer-owned bank within COBA’s membership. The age cap ensures that early-career professionals – who may not yet have the same opportunities as senior staff – can connect, collaborate, and develop their leadership potential.
A volunteer committee of representatives from COBA member institutions oversees the program, ensuring it delivers meaningful and valuable experiences. It does this by offering in-person networking events, virtual webinars, mentorship opportunities, a scholarship award, and a dedicated stream at COBA’s annual conference, including exclusive sessions and CEO networking opportunities
